MECHATRONICS - Introduction

 MECHATRONICS

MECHATRONICS:-

Mechatronics is the synergistic integration of electronics engineering, electrical engineering, control engineering & computer technology maintenance of a wide range of engineering products and processes with mechanical engineering for the design, manufacture analyses and processes.

Mechatronic systems-

A Mechatronics system is a system that comprises a combination of mechanical, electrical, telecommunications, control and computer science technologies.

Elements of Mechatronic system:-

  1.  Actuators & Sensors
  2.  Signals & Conditioninglogic
  3.  Digital Logic Systems
  4.  Software & Data Acquisition Systems
  5. Compters & Display
    1. Sensors & Actuators
    • Sensors and Actuators come under Mechanical Systems.
    • Sensors detect the state of parameters, inputs and outputs.
      • Various Sensors used in mechatronic systems
        1. Linear and Rotational sensors
        2. Acceleration, Torque, Force Sensors
        3. Flow sensors
        4. Temperature sensors
        5. Proximity sensors
        6. Light sensors

    • Actuators produce motion or cause some action.
      • Various Actuators used in mechatronic systems
        1. Hydraulic & Pneumatic Actuators
        2. electro-mechanical actuators
        3. Piezoelectric Actuators
        4. Electric Motors - AC, DC, Servo, Servo motors

    2. Signals & Conditioning:-

    • Mechatronic System deals with two types of signals and conditioning
      - Input
      - Output
    • Input device receives signal from mechatronic system via interfacing devices and sensors and sent to the control circuits for processing the data.
      • Various types of Input signal conditioning used in the mechatronic system
        1. Discrete circuits
        2. Amplifiers
        3. Analog-to-Digital
        4. converters
        5. Digital to Digital
    • The output signals from the system are sent to output/display devices through interfacing devices.
      • Various types of output signal conditioning used in the mechatronic system
        1. Digital & Analog
        2. Display Decoders
        3. Amplifiers
        4. Power transistors
        5. power op amps
     3. Digital logic systems
    • Digital logic devices control overall system operation
      •  The various digital logic systems used in the mechatronic system are
        1.  Logic Circuits
        2.  Micro Controllers
        3.  Programmable Logic Controllers
        4.  Sequencing & timing controls
        5.  Control Algorithms
    4. Software and data acquisition systems
    • The data acquisition system acquires the output signals from sensors in the form of voltage, frequency, resistance etc.
    5. Computers and display devices
    • Computers are used to store a large number of data and process further through software. Display devices are used to give visual feedback to the user.
